Back to work...

Taking out some weed trees and pruning around the property- today's a good day for this 'cos the kids are off school for the Jewish holiday.

Home...and out with my dog

Who I understand is lucky to be alive as she's been making Jackie's life hell in my absence!

Retreat 2

Canoing done, getting packed up before lunch, then off.

Retreat 2

After Morning Prayer led by Tami we played a few more group games before letting them loose in the gym with misc. sports equipment.

Retreat- Day 2

We've had breakfast and now, while some linger over coffee, some are playing frisbee in the rain, and some are still getting properly dressed.

Home-sweet-home for the night, the adult males room (between the 2 teenage boys rooms).

10:30, time to go and yell "lights out!" - for all the good it'll do :)

After dinner and an instructed Eucharist by Fr. Matthew, a roaring blaze in preparation for s'mores.

A hungry crew for dinner.

Hiking back for dinner.

Alexander on "the swings".

Reached the low ropes course!

Hiking to the low ropes.

After lunch what's better than a little Ultimate Frisbee?

The leaders are having it tough and are working really hard!

And before lunch we bring the two groups together for a big game.

The group is starting to gel.

"Lowering the cake".

Name games.

Meeting the leaders and getting to know each other with some games.

Arrival at Greenkill- in the common area of our cabin "Tall Pines".

On the way

The Christ's Church Confirmation Class takes over the Goshen Dunkin' Donuts!

Confirmation Retreat

Trailer all hooked up and ready to go.

Where the wild things are!

Just got back from a very early walk with Holly before I have to get
packed up to leave for the Confirmation retreat at 7:15. I didn't take
any pictures because it's still pitch dark out!

It was a very strange experience to do the same 2 1/2 mile loop around
Saxon Woods that we must have done a couple of hundred times before, but
this time in the almost total darkness with just a fairly weak LED
flashlight for company. Familiar landmarks look very different in the
dark, and while I normally truck along with my iPod on and Holly ranges
a couple of hundred yards ahead, behind or to the sides as the mood (and
the scents) take her, this morning though I was listening to the sounds
of the night-time forest: the shuffling, snuffling, rustles of small
furry creatures amongst the newly fallen leaves; the occasional louder
twig snap of larger animals; the flurry of startled fowl surprised by
our coming; and our own footsteps on the mud and rock. Holly stayed
pretty close, although she was obviously on home turf and went sniffing
around, but didn't go too far ahead as I could see her eyes reflected
regularly in the dim beam of my flashlight as she looked back to see
that I was still there. At one point she put up a skunk that seemed
quite vexed- thank goodness she's obedient enough that she came away and
left it alone when I realised what it was and called her off before she
could make it cross enough to spray!

All in all an interesting experience! Now I must finish my coffee, take
a shower and get ready for the trip ahead!

Tuesday Dinner

They say this could be the last nice evening of the summer, so that could only mean one thing- lobster dinner on the deck at Ebb Tide!

Sunday afternoon walk

Don't know if they will show up in this pic, but these spider webs were beautifully highlighted in the late afternoon sun.

Praying Mantis

On the outside of my office window.

Removing the broken window of my little sound control room so it can be repaired. It has been boarded up for a couple of months since someone hit it with a ball- it'll be really nice to have some natural light in there once it's been fixed!

Thursday walk

By way of change, Holly and I took a little detour from our usual route around Saxon Woods to check up on Crispy's geocache over on the other side (all is well). Here's our track:
