It's that time of year...

...time to put the lights on the tree.

I guess that means Christmas really is less than a month away!

Thanksgiving

The table at Jodi's before the hordes descend.

Thanksgiving

At Saxon Woods with Holly for a nice quiet walk, with Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant" playing on my iPod.

Can't quite believe it's Thanksgiving and I'm walking around in a T-shirt!

Thanksgiving

Getting ready for Thanksgiving dinner (at Jodi's this year). These are our contributions: under the foil is the stuffing Jackie made and the roast potatoes, I made the apple pies- one without cinnamon just for me!

Skytop

And finally, here is Crispy tie-dying a T-shirt this morning with his
friends Jack and Sidney from the Kid's Banquet last night.

Skytop

Here are Jake and Crispy back at the lodge after the picnic.

Skytop

And here are some pretty pictures taken along the way.

Skytop

The walk back around the lake is part of the "Fitness Trail", so we
tried out some of the elements along the way!

Skytop

Here is Crispy shooting paintball, and us on the way to and at the
picnic at Robin Hood Cove on Saturday.

Skytop

Here we are ready for dinner on Friday night.

Skytop

Well, we're back from our weekend at Skytop, Jackie had a great time and
a nice relaxing birthday.

Here are a few more pictures from the weekend (taken with the better camera)

Here we all are on the roof, along with Crispy relaxing in a cushy sofa
in the lobby.

Skytop

Well, we've had brunch part 1, and now Crispy and Jackie are making tie-die T-shirts before they head for the paintball range and I go for anothr round of clay pigeon shooting. Then it will be time for brunch part 2 before we get ready to head off.

Skytop

Just finished dinner- amazing roast beef with Yorkshire pudding almost (!) as good as my mother's (they let the centre be a little soggy like it's supposed to be). Jackie had wonderful lamb served on a bed of polenta.

Crispy has been at the "Children's Banquet" since 5:15 and we go get him at 9. It turns out there are only 2 other kids there- the 2 that Crispy met in the pool this afternoon and persuaded to sign up for it. Apparently they are having a wonderful time as we just ran into the other 2 kid's parents down by the fireplace and thay said they had been in to check up on them and they were playing some elaborate game and told them to come back ina hour!

If we can summon up the energy me and Mrs. Creosote will head down for the dancing in the lobby in a few minutes- but I can't guarantee we'll dance!

Skytop

Back at the Lodge in time for a short snooze before Jake and Crispy go swimming and I go shooting.

Skytop

Walking back from lunch around the lake.

The calm after the storm

Jackie & I finally went to bed around 12, the kids were still up and talking. They woke up at about 7- one slept on the floor, two slept on an air mattress and one slept under one! It took us about 2 1/2 hours to get them up, dressed and packed up, and Jackie has taken them for breakfast at the diner (brave girl) while I stay here and clean up and go to work upstairs.

All in all, I think, a success.

Movie time

And here they are after pizza, settling down to watch "Cats and Dogs" in the Undercroft (the new youth room under the parish hall that we've taken over for the night), comfy in sleeping bags on a couple of air mattresses.

Let the craziness begin!

Crispy and his friends Mark, John & Liam are having a sleepover for his birthday. We hope they will exhaust themselves running around the parish hall before they make and eat pizza and then settle down with a movie.

Playland by night

Had to work a little late and so have ended up at the park after dark with the dog. She's still chasing tennis balls though I don't know how she sees them in the dark!
