Choir CD Recording

Andrew giving notes between pieces.

Choir CD Recording

Just after lunch, into the third hour- they're doing pretty well.

Busy week 3

...and setting up microphones in the church and resetting the sound board etc. for the choir's CD recording session today (more about that later, I'm sure).

Busy week 2

...running the cables for, connecting, and mounting the new 37" flat screen display TV in the parish hall (it shows the same as is on the display we put up in reception over the summer, but we can easily hook up a laptop or DVD player)...

Busy week 1

I realise I haven't posted many pictures this week as I've been very busy. Here are a few of the things that have kept me so busy...

...setting up the new church in-house servers (2 Dell T105s, 1 as a database and file server, 1 as a backup server for all the computers in the building) with Ubuntu Linux Server Edition (free and excellent!). Here is the first one in my office as I install and tweak Ubuntu- they will end up upstairs in the equipment room...

Another day...

...another dogwalk.

Saxon Woods N is sunny, snowy, windy, and very cold!

Evening weirdness

At the park with the dog, and there's someone out at the end of Playland Pier playing the bagpipes!

I think they should go out a little further.

At the park

Saturday afternoon walk with Holly and Crispy before we head off to see "Avatar". Well, what else would we do with the first sunny afternoon in weeks but go to see a 3 hour movie?

Haiti & the networks

Flicking around the channels this evening I am struck by the fact that every network (broadcast and cable) seems to have anchors and reporters in Port au Prince. And they are all reporting on how rescue workers can't get into Haiti because the airport is full. I know it's important to let the world know what's going on, but I would have a lot more respect for all the news outlets if they had agreed to run a "pool" and send in one group of reporters that they could all use- and let the space freed up from not sending in duplicate anchors, crew and equipment be used to bring in the rescue workers they seem so desperate to show us stuck waiting to fly in.

My heart goes out to the people of Haiti which has been devastated by an earthquake yesterday.

The BTI business school in Les Cayes (in the SW) where I went in '08 is OK, but Cayes has suffered damage and has some buildings down. Apparently the worst damage is in Port au Prince, Jacmel and PetionVille. The Episcopal Cathedral in PaP where I went on my last day in Haiti and the school and music school next door have been flattened.

My slideshow of pictures from my trip in '08 is here, it's heartbreaking to think that many of the buildings in the pictures in PaP are probably just rubble now.
