And the sprinkler guys are here too :)

The grass has been cut, the sod to patch the bare spots comes tomorrow- we almost look like a church again ;)

The railing has arrived :)

We may actually be ready for this wedding on Saturday after all!

Sidewalks project

Grading the grass in preparation for new sod, now we really just need a railing on the ramp!

Mall day

We thought we'd cool of with a day at the mall, but their A/C doesn't seem to be working :(

We're at Dave and Buster's now for lunch and some silly games (Crispy's playing Fruit Ninja)  before we head to the movies to see The Avengers- I hope the A/C is working there!

"There's a dog in my playtable!"

We came over to the nursery school playground with Robyn and David and their kids, and as it's quite hot we filled up this little playtable with water for the kids to play with. However Holly decided it was a perfect place for her to cool off :)

Another track meet...

... Irvington, the last one of the season.

This is CJ's buddy Jason throwing the shot while CJ waits for his turn :)

More Sidewalks

The new bottom step to the main doors was finished yesterday, and they've started cleaning up the site (the 6 big blocks on the right will be the new steps in the columbarium).

There's light at the end of the tunnel on this side at least :)

Sidewalks

Starting work on the columbarium side.

Proud of our Confirmands!

Our Confirmation Class led Morning Prayer this morning, they did everything- usher, acolyte, officiate, preach, sing in the choir etc. - and they did an awesome job!

Here are the three who shared the preaching duties-

This is the third year the Confirmation Class has done this, and every year we're a little nervous- but they always come through and do a fantastic job (next year Crispy will be doing it!)

Here are a few more pictures from church this morning-

New York Yacht Club

Pronounced Throatwobbler-mangrove!

NYC :)

In the city with Jake and Tami to go to the Episcopal Charities reception and then to the theater (Auxford is meeting us there).

Plucky Tree

This is one of the fallen trees I cut back off the path just over a year ago. I guess there are enough of the roots still in the ground for it to still be alive- I love that the bare trunk has sprouted all these leaves this spring- go nature!

Holly the hunter

There's a chipmunk in that hole!

I don't think she'll get this one as it's safe in it's hole, but she's so fast she does occasionally catch them- she just doesn't know what to do with them when she does, she's usually so surprised she drops them :)

Hiking :)

It's a lovely day, so Holly and I are doing the Red Trail at Ward Pound Ridge, about 6 miles.

Update- I just checked the GPS track on my phone; their maps seem to be a little conservative with distances, and with the detours we took on some of the side trails for the fun of it we actually covered 9.2 miles! No wonder the dog slept so well all evening :)

We're accessible!

Or at least the door is,  now we just have to finish the ramp to reach it :)

Automatic Doors

The door openers for the doors at the top of the ramp are being installed today :)

Light Painting

I realized this evening that I had not taken any pictures for my Night Photography class tomorrow evening (we're supposed to take some pictures each week using different low-light techniques), and as it is pissing down outside I decided to head up into the dark parish hall and try out some "light painting" pictures.

This is a technique where you use a long exposure of a dark background and then move a light source like a flashlight around to create light trails- as the flashlight is brighter than the background you get lines of light in the picture (such as the headlight trails in my night pictures from last week).

So, here are some of my pictures, I think they're quite successful- if a bit narcissistic- it's not easy writing your name backwards with a flashlight ;)

30", f/5.6, ISO 100
30", f/5.6, ISO 100, and this time I knelt down in front of the camera and put the flashlight on myself after writing my name
30", f/7.1, ISO 200
30", f/7.1, ISO 200, this one is my favorite- I paused with the light on my feet before I started writing so you get my phantom socks under the C :)

Another track meet...

...and Crisp got himself another couple of personal bests in long-jump and shot :)

Long-jump run-up...
...and flying through the air!
And he ran the 200 again too :)

Dandelion

After shot practice I switched to my macro lens to take a couple of pictures of the dandelions :)

This pretty yellow flower...
...turns into this fluffy circle
Each seed has it's own hairy parachute
Here's the centre with some of the seeds blown away

Shot put practice

Crisp seems to have really taken to track and field at school, so we ordered him a shot from Amazon (gotta love free prime shipping for stuff like this!) so he can practice at weekends.

We went out this afternoon to try it out- half an hour of practice (with a little coaching from Jackie), and he's already added a foot to his best distance :)

Night pictures

While I'm here with my laptop, here are a few pictures I took this week for my photography class. I decided to experiment with long exposures, so most of these are taken on a tripod at around 25-30 seconds.

The parking lot- the white and red lines are the lights of a car as it left

Parish hall at night

Junction of the Boston Post Road with traffic

Corvette neon sign down at Joey's
The effect is created by zooming out during a long exposure

Boston Post Road again- not sure why, but this one is my favorite

Chapel door to the church through the dogwood tree

Pictures in the woods

When I went to walk the dog in this woods at lunchtime today I took my camera with my home made water-bottle macro diffuser with me- pretty pictures :)

Tiny white flowers- each clump like this is about the size of my thumb nail

This little guy had a web between two leaves

I guess that sticky blob of sap is pretty appetizing if you're a bug

Water drop on a leaf stem

Moss on a wet rock

Grass seed

Blackberry flowers about to bloom

And of course I have to finish with Holly-
wouldn't having all that crap on your tongue drive you crazy?

Happy dog at the end of a nice walk :)
