Welcome to the 21st century?

Why do mobile phone companies suck so much?

I'm with T-Mobile (but from what I hear they're all pretty much the same) and I recently upgraded Crisp and I's phones which meant adding a data plan to Crisp's line. I just checked the latest bill online to find that there is a $7.60 charge on my line and a $1.80 charge on Jackie's line for "Messaging"- interesting when we pay $20 a month for unlimited family messaging. I always check the bill extra carefully when any changes have been made to our account because something like this seems to happen every time.

So I called T-Mobile to question the charges and they have removed them- but (including the time I was on hold while the almost incomprehensible customer service rep "researched the charges") it took just under 24 minutes!

I know it's only $9.40, but why did this happen in the first place, and why did it take so long to fix? If the billing is all computerized mistakes like this just shouldn't happen- I suspect they have code written into the software that surreptitiously introduces these errors (and notice- the errors are always in their favor) and I'm sure they make a fortune because most people don't check their bills that closely!

Boy & Dog

I'm heading out to walk the dog and Crisp is going over to hang out with Matthew to talk anime and video games and eat pizza, so I'm gonna drop him off on my way :)

Wedding rehearsal

Getting a big wedding party ready for their big day tomorrow :)

Cooling off :)

Holly's stream is nice and full after last night's thunderstorms.

Blogger is still not accepting posts via email, so this is partly a test to see how well Bloggeroid interacts with the Juicedefender app I use to save battery life...

Ward kids..

...more rehearsing, a fun way to check out my phone's video capabilities :)

video

It's a shame Blogger compresses video so much- this is 720HD on my phone and looks great, but on here it's been so compressed it really doesn't do it justice- I guess the answer is to upload to YouTube and then link to or embed the video here...

Ward Concert

The kids are rehearsing for their concert tonight :)

Dog camera test

Just fooling around in the parking lot, playing with the camera on my new phone (it's a Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G, the same phone I got Crispy a couple of weeks ago).

So far I'm just using the stock camera app, and it's not half bad! I'll post a fuller review of the phone when I've had for a bit longer.

Beating the heat :)

It's already 90F and 65% humidity, so we've put a sprinkler out for the younger Ward kids (the older ones have gone to use the pool at the Osborn).

Doing their civic duty :)

The Y Adventure Camp had a "Service Project Day" today. Crisp wasn't sure what they'd be doing, but from this pic I pinched from their Facebook page it looks like they were cleaning up some wooded area (the Nature Center, maybe?)- I'll update with where they were when he gets home.

I'm very glad that his camp does this kind of thing, they go on cool trips every day (for example yesterday was a tour of Metlife Stadium, and tomorrow they're going to a Red Bulls soccer game), so it's nice that the kids get to do a little to give back.

Today was super hot again (95F), so they probably didn't work too hard before heading back to the Y to fall in the pool, but it looks like they actually did some work ;)

Update- I was right, they were at the Nature Center, helping clear an "invasive vine".

A month to go :)

Crisp and I just got back from the Rye YMCA pool where we spent the last couple of hours doing our PADI SCUBA refresher course- you have to do this if you haven't been diving in 6 months to go over all the skills and safety measures you learned when you got certified. The boy continues to amaze me with his confidence and maturity when doing this kind of thing, I'm so proud of him!

Can't wait to be in that warm Caribbean water, swimming with the turtles and rays!

Turf wars, church cat style

Colin's cat, Bruce, decided this morning was a good morning to come across the street and check out the church, Sasha is not pleased!

Grown-up dinner :)

Crispy's away for the weekend with his buddies (at one of their dad's lake house), so we're at Ginban for dinner- Ginban Triple Star for me, House Mei Fun for Jake. Yum!

Cool shadows...

... from the roof :)

Bird's Eye View

Up looking at the bell with a technician, so I took the chance to snap a picture of the Ward morning meeting from above :)

Dragonfly

As I was getting ready to close up the building this afternoon I looked up to see this awesome dragonfly hanging from the ceiling over the reception desk- his wing-span was about 4 1/2 inches.

I ran down and grabbed my camera and snapped a few pics, and this one just shows yet again why I love this lens, the Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM :)

f/5.6, 1/200 sec, 200 ISO, 85mm, on camera flash, handheld.

Crop of the the above picture- you can see the individual hairs on his body!

And yes, I made sure to usher him gently out of the window before I closed up ;)

And the last Bronycon bunch...

Crisp and Jason waiting to get Lauren Faust's autograph.

Jason and Ms. Faust...

...it's rare to see Jason speechless :)

Crisp and Ms. Faust...

...she was very nice to the boys...

...signing posters and headshots...

...which they then carried to the van as if they were gold!

Further Bronycon thoughts

As promised here are a few more pictures from Saturday's day at Bronycon-

Bathroom signs :)

Crisp and Jason negotiating one of the vendor aisles...

...and checking the con guide to see which panel to go to.

The "Mane" room filling up with young men (and a few girls) for the opening ceremonies.

While on the line for the autograph vouchers John de Lancie ("Discord" and was also "Q" on TNG) was nice enough to stop and say "hi".

The infamous ramp where I queued for 4 1/4 hours for autograph vouchers.

This is one of the guys I felt very sorry for- he had dressed up as one of the characters but basically missed most of the day at the con as he was next to me in the queue for hours.

Crisp in "Discord" hat and wings waiting for Lauren Faust's panel...

...at the end of which they presented her with a huge picture of her as a pony :)

Jason (in "Soarin"" hat), and Crisp goofing off in the "museum".

Ward Summer Learning Camp, day 1

Ward is a literacy camp for kids from Port Chester and around that we host in our classrooms, parish hall etc for the month of July. This is their first morning meeting as they get off the bus :)
