Only 3 more to go...

... successful Vigil over and we're all reset to do it again 3 times tomorrow :)

Then I can collapse in an exhausted heap!

Easter Vigil

We're off and running - I didn't burn the church down with the new fire and got through my reading without a stumble ;)

Busy Saturday, part 2

... And 5 hours later we are all set for tonight's Vigil and tomorrow's 3 big services :)

Busy Saturday

Got a lot to do before the Easter Vigil tonight! Here is the church this morning, after yesterday's Good Friday services...

Evolution of the Lenten Beard

Colin, Ruaraidh and I all gave up shaving for Lent (in fact Colin shaved off his existing beard so we would all be starting from the same place). We decided that no trimming would be allowed except for at the neck and the lip... and every Thursday we took a picture so we'd have a record of our burgeoning hirsuteness-

Day 1 (the day after Ash Wednesday)
Me, Ruaraidh & Colin

Day 8

Day 15

Day 22

Day 29

Day 36

Day 43 (Maundy Thursday)

By this point this was the longest beard I'd ever grown and it had started to feel very scruffy, so I decided to subscribe to the team that feels Lent ends on Maundy Thursday and headed off this afternoon to Sebastian's Barber Shop in Tarrytown for a trim.

This feels much better :)

Day 44

Holy Week prep

Just testing out the back projection setup for the organ meditation on Wednesday evening. Don't worry- we won't be showing the Simpsons, it was just the DVD that happened to be in the box ;)

Jake and Crisp and a bunch of the confirmation gang finished up the road ready for tomorrow- cobblestones drawn in and palms painted all over it :)

Laying the road

Colin and I just finished laying down the paper road that the Confirmation Class will paint palms on tomorrow and the congregation will process down on Sunday :)

Crispy's new little friend

A bunny named Jimothy (he couldn't decide between Timothy and Jimmy).

I'm not sure how he managed to tempt him away from the Cave of Caerbannog!

Can't wait for this...

Much Ado is probably my favourite comedy, and this looks like a super fun version!

Joss Whedon and with Nathan Fillion as Dogberry...what's not to love?

Sunday dinner...

... in front of the fire :)

Turkey Dinner

We remembered that we still had a small turkey in the freezer that we never cooked at Christmas, so we invited people to come over and help us eat it.

For kids who come from a vegetarian household Robyn &  David's kids are very excited by the bird :)

Nest of puppies :)

We have a full house in the Undercroft this evening, CJ &  Jason & Thomas & Paul & Teddy the intern. I just took them an extra large pizza and a 2 liter bottle of soda- and I had to jump out of the way as they descended on it!

This crazy disposable world

Our dishwasher had started to leak from underneath so I called the appliance repair guy I use, he traced the leak to some components in the door and went away to get the price of the parts he needed.

I was floored when he called me to say the parts and labour to repair it were going to be $250! This is not an expensive machine we're talking about.

So I went to look at Home Depot and found I could get a very well reviewed, basic Maytag for under $300. Now I hate the idea of not repairing the old one, but when I could get a new one, with a warranty, for only $50 more than repairing the old one (which had also gotten pretty noisy too) there really was no choice. At least I can save a few more bucks by installing it myself :)
