55 Central Park West

After seeing the Ghostbusters 30th anniversary showing at Lincoln Center, here's Crisp and Colin looking up at the Gozer Building :)

Ghostbuster's anniversary

Colin preparing to take a selfie in front of the poster :)

In NYC...

... to go to the 30th anniversary showing of Ghostbusters.

CJ is in his lab coat and Colin is pretending he doesn't know him :)

Back in our woods

Holly is unlikely to forgive us for bringing her home for a few days, but I figured a walk in our familiar woods would be a start :)

All packed and ready to go

Last walk by the pond

Taking the dog for a quick walk the 3/4 of a mile to the end of the driveway and back before starting to pack the van for the drive home.

I shall very much miss this place, it's been just the break I needed!

Steak on the grill

Kind of a funky old grill, but I'll make it work...

...and when you look up and this is your kitchen
it makes it OK to cook on anything :)

15 minutes to Doctor Who...

Very excited for the new Doctor Who starting today!

Unfortunately the TV in our cabin in the woods does not have BBC America, but rather than wait to watch it on the DVR when we get back to Rye, through the magic of my Chromebook's HDMI output and the proxy I pay for we can watch it live on BBC1 :)

Fort at No. 4

Spent an instructional morning checking out the Fort at No. 4, an early fortification from when this was the British northern frontier, just over the border in New Hampshire. The local reenactment society was there today, firing canon and other fun stuff :)

Springfield Farmer's Market...

... Complete with peace protesters.

We got some bread and honey, veggies and a raspberry pie, and a couple of nice, local sirloin steaks to throw on the grill later :)

Lovely dinner at MacLoamainn's Scottish Pub in Chester. I had the haggis (very good with neeps and tatties!), Jackie had an excellent fish pie, and Crisp had (surprise, surprise) pizza :)

Quechee Gorge

Another rainy day so we headed off to Quechee Gorge.

As well as visiting the gorge itself (see ridiculous selfie of Crisp and I above) we went to the Cabot store and bought our weight in cheese and visited the antique flea market where Crisp bought himself an antique pipe-wrench..."in case the zombies attack!".

Tonight we're off to check out a Scottish pub in the next town over: MacLaomainn's- "Scottish Hospitality in the Hills of Vermont"! Not sure if I'll have the haggis (it'll depend on whether it's wild or farm-raised) or just stick to the mince 'n' tatties :)

A nice, warm fire

It's not really cold enough, but as it's been raining most of the day and we are about to curl up together and watch the Lego Movie and wanted s'mores, I thought it would be nice to lay a fire in the fireplace :)

Little House in the Woods

People had commented on Facebook that our vacation house in the Vermont woods sounds like something out of Little House on the Prairie, so I had promised Robyn I would recreate the closing titles:

As a man of my word I offer you this:

Anniversary breakfast

-the boy is still in bed :)

It was twenty years ago today...

I would like to wish a happy anniversary to Jackie, my amazing, beautiful, warm, clever, long-suffering, extraordinary and just-plain-awesome wife of twenty years!

I love her more very day and can't wait to see what the next twenty years (and beyond!) will bring us :)

Cabin in the woods :)

Fire pit where we're enjoying the fruits of our wood chopping labors earlier, with the cabin in the background.

S'mores :)

Now that's a fire!

I'm a lumberjack...

(Just so you know, I did not let him chop wood without shoes on)

I spent a happy morning fishing in the pond. Only caught a couple of tiddlers that were not big enough to keep- I think my canine companion may be responsible

The early morning view of the mist on the pond from my Adirondack chair... sorry about the ghost dog, she moved as I was taking the panorama :)

Green Mountain Takenoko

Board games with Jackie & Crisp in the eerie quiet of the woods :)

Vermont Country Lodge

We have arrived at our little cabin in the woods... and it's everything that was advertised :)

It's very secluded and quiet at the end of a 3/4 mile dirt road, but it's only 10 minutes into Springfield where there are restaurants and a big grocery store. No cell coverage, but blazing fast wi-fi.

The view of the pond was taken from the spot where Holly (who thinks she's died and gone to heaven)  is sitting in the other picture... tomorrow we'll see if there are any fish :)

Getting the car all packed for our week in Vermont- got the dog's crate and the fishing rods, camera gear and food staples, stuffed animals and swim suits :)

Back in the woods with my dog :)

For the first time in a week, and for the last time for a week (Vermont tomorrow!).

Home :)

How the other half lives...'s wonderful what a polite smile and a gentle joke will do.

I was given a boarding pass which said my seat would be assigned at the gate (when I went online to check in yesterday it said this flight was oversold and they were looking for people to take a later one in exchange for a voucher).

So when the gate opened I went up to check and said if they needed someone to take "one of those big, lonely seats up front " I would be prepared to volunteer. The gate attendant said she was just sorting it out and she would call me back in a few minutes. 10 minutes later she did, and with a wink and a "if you don't ask you don't get" she handed me a boarding card for my window seat in "business first" :)

Priority boarding, a seat that lays fully flat (this is my legroom with my footrest), a full-size TV with lots of movies and a menu to choose from for lunch... I'm a happy camper!

First class upgrade! :)

Terminal 2

Sitting in Terminal 2 having had a good breakfast just waiting for my gate to open. I must say that this terminal is a decided improvement over the dreaded terminal 4 :)

Leaving for home

Very early and we're on the way to the airport.

I just had to post a couple of pics of these triangular marks in the sidewalk outside my parent's house- they were made by the axle stands when I was rebuilding the front end of my Land Rover more than 30 years ago :)

Caroline Helen Rossi, 1967-2014

Wonderful and moving funeral service this afternoon for Caroline at Golder's Green Crematorium, followed by a walk across the Heath to the Holly Bush pub and a spirited gathering in the upper room.

Simon did a fantastic job of pulling this together, and he and Caroline's sister Clare and neice Rhiannon all spoke from the heart between carefully chosen and very appropriate tracks of rock music and poems read by Dad and Lyla and her cousin Belle.

Before the service Lyla, Spike and many of their friends decorated Caroline's wicker coffin with flowers and ribbons.

All in all a great send off with many tears but also much laughter.

Getting ready for Caroline's funeral at 2.

All aboard...

...and here we go.

When are they going to start enforcing the carry-on size rules?

At the airport

At Newark waiting to board the redeye (UA940) to London. It will be good to see my family, I just wish it was for a different reason.

Clean Dog :)

After our walk in the woods today Holly and I stopped off at the new Petvalu in Rye Ridge that has self-service dog washing stations.

For $10 she has had a shampoo, rinse, repeat with a nice oatmeal-papaya shampoo and conditioner, been dried off with fluffy white towels and then even sat still for the blow dryer.

Her white bits are finally white again and she smells lovely!

Zombie 15'

Playing a new game with Colin- Scenario 3... many more Zombies to kill!
