Christmas trees!

If 1 truck load of trees weighs 8 tons and is unloaded by 4 guys, how much has each guy moved?

Yes, I think I've had my exercise for the day :)

2 turkeys!

Jackie carves the deep fried turkey while the oven cooked one waits patiently in it's bacon sweater :)

Both are delicious!

Fried turkey!

Success, now to see how it tastes!

The turkey is in!

No conflagration so far, now we cook it for 56 minutes :)

Turkey fryer

Burner lit, now we've just got to let it get to 350F.

Setting up for the turkey fry

More preparation...

...10 lbs of potatoes peeled :)

Getting ready...

Stuffing is made and turkeys are brining-  a 20 pounder that's being cooked in the oven, a 14 pounder that's being deep fried, and a 6 pound breast to deep fry so we have leftovers for Friday :)

Finally...

...I get to try the winter tires- and so far they seem to be doing great :)

Snow's a comin'

We seem to be solidly in the 6"-8" band for the snow that's coming tomorrow, but this year we've hired a new outfit to do our plowing (and all shoveling!) at the church. So I'm quite looking forward to watching through the window with a cup of coffee and my slippers on :)

But, just in case, I've just spent the last hour checking over my machines, topping up the oil and filling them up with nice, fresh gas and making sure they start easily. I hope I won't need them, but I always go on the belief that if you're prepared you won't need your preparations, if you're not you'll kick yourself for not being!

Getting ready for Thanksgiving...

... I've always wanted to try this :)

Outdoor freezer

The nursery school is collecting frozen turkeys for a local food bank. As it's currently 23F (-5C) outside, that seemed the sensible place to store then until they get picked up :)

Family and friends gathered to have pizza and cupcakes to celebrate the 15th birthday of our 6-foot, hairy son :)

Chapel Window

Was just closing up the church, and noticed how nice the afternoon light through the chapel window looks :)

Warm work in anticipation of the cold!

It's quite warm today (59F) and it's going to be even warmer tomorrow, but after that the temperature is going to take a nose-dive, so I decided to take advantage of the fact that I'm off today and put the new winter tires and rims on the little car.

Dunlop Winter Maxx 175/70R14s, time will tell if all the wisdom about how much difference winter tires make is true :)

Back to the woods

Holly and I went to see a different vet over the weekend (recommended by a friend at church) as there didn't seem to be any improvement after nearly two weeks of almost total rest.

He doesn't think it's got anything to do with her wrist, he thinks it's more in her shoulder and it's a flair up of the tick-born blood disease she's had before. He's put her on anti-biotics and she certainty seems a little better already.

He said we can start some gentle exercise, so we've been going around the block on a leash, and as it was so beautiful today we're doing the short loop back at the woods.

Holly has been quite down since she's been on house arrest, and the look of sheer joy now she's here is wonderful to see :) I'm going to take it very gently (and not even think of bringing out a tennis ball!), but being back here has lifted my mood as well. Even if this sets her back a few days, the lift to both our spirits is worth it!

Jingle Bills

Forget worrying about who's open or working on Thanksgiving- we seem to have gone straight from Hallowe'en to Christmas

It's November 4th and in one commercial break I've just seen Christmas ads from Target, Home Depot and the US Post Office! Do we really need to start these with 50 days still to go?

Sad.

The morning after :)

(Taken through the window so as not to disturb them) I've no idea what time they went to sleep, but Jackie has gone out to get then bagels for breakfast. They'll have to get up soonish as the dance class will be pounding the floor above their heads in a couple of hours ;)
