Before and after

I just put together a little album of pictures of the bathroom before and after it's renovation and beautification, click here to see it :)

Finished :)

They came and installed the faucet to match the shower one this morning, so we are finally done!

3 weeks but it was so worth it, it's beautiful and functional and it's going to be so much easier to clean with all the tile rather than the stupid textured paint that was there before... and the heated floor is amazing, we keep going in there in bare feet and just smiling :)

Warm floor :)

The electricians came and got the floor working yesterday afternoon- it's *very* nice to come in after a couple of hours outside clearing snow (we just had an inch overnight, so I thought I'd keep my hand in and save the church some money and deal with it myself) and be able to take a shower in our own comfy, warm and beautiful bathroom!

The other guys came and replaced the chipped tiles and dealt with most of the other minor touch-ups as well. The proper faucet came yesterday too, so if they come today and put that in and bring back the vanity doors they took to repaint we'll finally be done :)

Bathroom :)

We can finally get in and use the bathroom :)

There are a few punch list items they have to come back and take care of (like the fact that the heated floor doesn't work, they've chipped some tiles, and they put the little chrome barrel bolt we got so we could lock the bathroom door on the vanity for some unexplained reason!), but I can take a shower without traipsing across to the rectory :)

Oh, and Jackie says "please excuse the wrinkly towels", they're clean but they got stuffed in a hamper ;)

Snowshoeing

It's difficult to describe why I enjoy tramping through fresh snow with my dog so much, so here's a little snippet of video that should help. I love the solitude and the crunch of the snow, so I don't listen to music or audiobooks as I usually do when walking the dog.

Snow dog

A lovely afternoon for snowshoeing and romping in the woods :)

Winter tires rule!

Just got back from a quick trip to Home Depot to pick up a towel rail, loo roll holder etc.- all the little accessories we need to finish the bathroom.

The roads are still snow covered but with the snow tires the little Accent drives as if it's a balmy summer afternoon :)

Now I'll just grab my snowshoes and the dog and we'll head off for the woods...

Snowmageddon 2015!

Sam was here bright and early to deal with the snow (much less than we were predicted to get), leaving me free to take some pictures with my new camera (7D mark II) :)

Click here to see the full album :)

The meteorologists who cried wolf....

6 hours later...

... so, um, where's all the snow?

We got maybe another 3" overnight- it's a goodly amount of snow, and I can't wait to get to the woods with my snowshoes, but it's certainly not the Snowmageddon we were led to expect!

Here it comes...

The snow is falling heavier and the wind is picking up, and apparently the meat of the storm is is just about to hit us. They've lowered the expected totals a bit- we're now supposed to get about a foot and a half- but that's still a lot of snow!

I keep hearing the "shhhhhh-womp" of big areas of snow sliding off the roof and hitting the ground outside our windows.

Oh well, off to bed and we'll see what it looks like in the morning :)

So close!

They finished most of the painting in the bathroom today (I love the color Jackie chose), unfortunately we'll have to wait for the storm to pass before the electrician can get in, but we can use the loo! :)

There are a few rough edges and little bits and pieces I want them to take care of, but once they can get back in after the snow there should be no more than a day or so's work left.

And the biggest thing is that they took down all the plastic in the living room, so after a couple of hours vacuuming and dusting we can sit down and spend our snow day tomorrow watching all the shows that the DVR has been saving for us over the last two weeks :)

Countertop...

... and (gasp) a loo!

The faucet is just temporary as we'd ordered a one-hole version but they cut the countertop for a three-hole one, so we've got to send the one we'd got back and wait for a three-hole one to match the shower hardware to be shipped.

But we're getting closer...!

Happy dog

Holly has had her staples removed (you can just see the scar on the white of her chest, just behind her front leg), been given a clean bill of health, and is very happy to be back in the snowy woods with me and my snowshoes :)

Snow Shoveling

I've been doing it wrong for years- this is the way to shovel snow... stay inside in the warm and let someone else do it ! :)

Snow!

4-5" of heavy, wet snow. It's very pretty and very quiet out there... and someone else is coming to shovel it :)

Grout and vanity!

After a long and tough day that started with a funeral and continued with dealing with sewers (cleared and working but in need of some work in the future) and the cable company (trying to move the modem to the new phone equipment closet... they were less than helpful), it was very nice to come home and find the tiles grouted and the new, custom vanity installed :)

The fun never stops...

The sewer line for the whole building decided to back up late this afternoon. We managed to get a sewer guy here and we think the issue is in the section of pipe after our last manhole in the parking lot and the street (the one section we didn't replace when we did the parking lot a few years ago). He put the root cutter down it and jetted it out so that it's running for now, but it's still not right, so he's going to come back tomorrow and put a camera down it to see what our next move is.

On a happier note, they've almost finished the tile in our bathroom :)

Spaghetti :)

Spent a very productive day with the network engineer setting up our new interweb and phone distribution system... lovely fast internet and secure wifi throughout the building :)

The new phones are all on line too, and now we just need the phone company to port our numbers over. They're training Dorothée and me on how to use them on Wednesday.

Tile!

Gotta love subway tile :)

Walls!

Sorry, forgot to post these yesterday...

We have walls (though they make the bathroom look much smaller) and the tiles for the walls and floor have arrived :)

They didn't come today, but they'll be here tomorrow finishing up the drywall- so we spent some time this afternoon fine tuning the plastic covering everything in the living room as the dust from sanding drywall compound is usually the the worst for getting everywhere!

Bathroom

Didn't get a chance to get in and take a picture yesterday before they closed up, so here's yesterday's progress...

Yesterday was mostly electrical, all the lights and outlets are in, as is the electric heated floor (!). Today: sheetrock and wonderboard so that hopefully on Monday they can start tiling :)

Bathtub!

These guys are flying :)

Bathtub in place and filled with water so the weight sets it into the mortar.

More progress...

... the new bathtub is out of it's box and should hopefully be set in tomorrow :)

Most of today has been framing and making a hole through the 18" thick outside wall for a vent fan.

Not for the squeamish...

... Holly's wound is actually more on the side of her chest than her belly. It's held closed with 3 staples but it seems to be healing nicely, though the bruising around it has blossomed in the last couple of days :(

On the plus side she can't reach it and it doesn't seem to bother her too much (I'm sure the painkillers help), so we've been able to leave the cone off when we're in the house and just put it on her when she's home alone :)

Bathroom...

We have a floor!

They put the concrete down today (the other picture is the pipe that's under it that they finished yesterday... what with the dog and everything I forgot to post it).

Poor dog :(

Came home after going to the grocery store this evening to find that Holly was acting a little subdued. Turns out she has about a 1/2" puncture wound on one side of her belly- my best guess is she must have run into a stick or something in the woods, and she's so fixated on her tennis ball while we're out you could cut her leg of and she wouldn't react.

Anyhow, a quick trip to the emergency vet and she's been sedated and has a couple of staples and some heavy duty pain killers and antibiotics... and she has to wear the dreaded "cone of shame" for the next 10 days :(

But at least I have stylish black, soft version for her from an earlier injury, so she's doesn't look totally sad, just a little bit.

Bathroom

Progress! The old, nasty sewer line is gone and the good news is that the pipe is clean and unrestricted from this point on. So although the old pipes in the bathroom were almost completely blocked with years of gunk, they don't have to remove any more floor and it should run smooth and clear from now on :)
